Artist Biography
Ex-patriot Moira Richardson lost her British accent at the age of 5 and immersed herself in as many books as time would allow her to read. She is a magazine writer, jewelry designer and instructor, world traveler, bicyclist, gardener, and fledgling accordion player. She is almost finished her first novel, the tale of a failing circus in modern America. One day she will live in an RV and travel around the United States in her Caravan o' Crafts.
Moira started designing jewelry seven years ago. She has experimented with a variety of materials and forms. She is currently taking a course called "Mixed Media Metals: Pendants and Lockets" at The Steelyard. She has sold her work at festivals, craft fairs, and art auctions, as well as to friends, family, coworkers, and random strangers on the street. She also designs custom creations upon request.
Her necklace, Tough Enough, was displayed in Greensburg, Pennsylvania-based, Seton Hill University’s Women in the Arts nationally juried show in November 2007. She currently has four pieces on display in the Knight Gallery at 170 Ives Street in Providence, Rhode Island. These pieces are the Princess Necklace, Silent Song bracelet, Courageous Heart pendant, and Stellar pendant. Starting on March 4, she will have three pieces on display at D'Art Gallery in Easthampton, Massachussetts as a part of the New England Fine Arts Student Juried Show, through April 2008. On view at D'Art Gallery are Hot, Hot Summer bracelet and pendant set, Stereotype pendant, and Ornithology pendant.
Moira teaches a jewelry design course as a part of a local high school afterschool program in Providence. Previously, she taught a similiar afterschool program for middle school students. She recently promoted afterschool jewelry design at the RI Afterschool Plus Alliance’s first ever Providers Fair. In addition, Moira writes the monthly arts / theatre column for Campus Connection magazine.
